It's the fastest street-legal car built by BMW.
With its new modifications and aerodynamics, it is some of BMW’s best work. The first-ever BMW M5 CS was unveiled in January 2021 with hauntingly beautiful specs and design as a car that could be driven on the race track as well as busy city streets. The M model iterations of BMW consistently provide high-performance through re-engineering and strong updates. While these luxury cars provided the best output, BMW found some room for improvement. In the 1970s, BMW’s abbreviation for CS meant ‘Coupe Sport.’ However, the automaker now uses the term ‘Competition Sport’ for the sedan’s ability to be driven on the racetrack. The 2022 M5 CS delivers on the promise as a sedan built to race and is the fastest street-legal car built by BMW.
The launch of the limited-edition BMW M5 CS has energized the M-series with its composed super-saloon interior and visible changes in the exterior. As a complete package, the sports sedan is a sheer driving pleasure. Here’s a glimpse at the stunning BMW M5 CS.

The BMW M5 CS boasts a magnificent interior and exterior with lightweight materials. The front splitter, hood, rear diffuser, splitter, and mirror housings are made from carbon fiber to reduce the weight. The interior also features carbon fiber-made front seats. The three-seater rear bench is replaced with two rear bucket seats also made with carbon fiber. The reduction in the use of sound-deadening materials has also shed the overall weight of the luxury car, over 230 lbs, compared to the M5 Competition.
While the M5 Competition Sport does not look quite different from the M5 and M5 Competition, it features gold-bronze painted badges and kidney-shaped grilles. The LED headlights are equipped with L-shaped lights that emit yellow light instead of white. The headlights also come with BMW Individual Shadowline trim that gives the M5 CS a dark appearance.
The four M carbon bucket seats are heated and can be adjusted electrically. They are covered in black Merano leather with red accents and stitching. The integrated headrests feature a glowing M5 logo and a map of Nurburgring Nordschleife, which played an important role in developing the BMW M5 CS.
The iDrive seven configuration menu on the 12.3-inch display can be accessed by a single SETUP button to adjust everything. This allows the driver to adjust the powertrain and chassis according to their personal preferences. The red M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel help navigate between the three setups provided in the BMW M5 CS - Default Road Mode, Track Mode, and Sport Mode.

The well-engineered powertrain enhances the comforting and luxurious features of the M5 CS. The base model is equipped with a 4.4-liter V8 engine that provides an output of 627 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque, 27 HP more than the M5 Competition. The M5 CS has a high-pressure direct fuel injection system to provide a faster engine response and fuel atomization. The two turbochargers have liquid-to-air inter-cooling and a two-pump oil system so that the car is as smooth on the racetrack as it is on the streets.
The M5 CS sprints from 0 to 60 MPH in merely 2.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the M5 Competition. The M Driver’s Package increases its top speed to 190 MPH, making the M5 CS the fastest production car for BMW, as claimed. The automaker also offers a voucher for driver training with the M Driver’s Package.
The combination of the reduced weight and powerful drivetrain of the 8-speed m Steptronic automation creates an otherworldly driving experience that makes up for the lack of manual transmission. The BMW M5 CS has three modes: 4-Wheel Drive, 4-Wheel Drive Sport, and 2-Wheel Drive. To enhance driver control, BMW has installed a Dynamic Stability Control System.
BMW has made a few tweaks to the chassis to make the car feel comfortable even with the reduced weight. The adaptive dampers and springs are tuned, while the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires have increased the size to 20 inches. The four stainless steel exhaust pipes provide a louder roar of the engine as the car cruises through the streets.
With the production of the Competition Sport of the M5, BMW has ensured that only the eager ones will get their hands on this limited edition car. The M5 CS is only available for one model year, that is, 2022. For exclusivity, the car is introduced in two new colors along with the traditional grey metallic. The M5 CS comes in Frozen Deep Green Metallic and Frozen Deep Grey Metallic color schemes.
As the luxury sports sedan remains a limited-edition model, the M5 CS has a base price of a whopping $142,000. It costs $36,000 more than the BMW standard M5 model and $30,000 higher than the M5 Competition. However, the features offered by the M5 CS go beyond the other models.
The 2022 BMW M5 CS, when launched in March 2021, was only available for purchase in the UK, North America, Russia, and Germany but is slowly making its way to other European and South-Asian countries. The 2022 iteration of the BMW M5 CS is a unique collector’s item and the complete BMW ever produced by the automaker
