Oregonians are allowed to pump their own gas this week, as temperatures near 100 degrees during an extended heat wave.
Governor Kate Brown declared a state of emergency from Monday through Sunday in 25 of Oregon’s 36 counties, ordering state agencies to direct resources toward the heatwave.
Following her declaration, the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office said residents can pump their own gas during the emergency order to limit the amount of time that gas station attendants have to stand out in the heat.
Self-serve gasoline is generally prohibited in Oregon, though it is permitted during off hours in some rural counties.
If you, like many Oregonians, need a refresher how to pump your own gas, here’s a helpful video.
