Seagrave Centrifugal Pump Tested at Charleston

The new Seagrave triple combination car having a 1,000 gallon centrifugal jump, was given its official acceptance test at Charleston, S. C., September 16, and it not only met but easily exceeded cverv requirement, according to figures issued by Chief Louis Behrens. The tests were witnessed by the local Board of Fire Masters and members of City Council, as wel as several out-of-town officials, including Mayor Cox, Alderman DePass and Chief Truett, of Darlington; Chief W. L. Jackson, of Anderson; Capt.Finn, of Sumter, and Chief Beaudrot and Mr. Baker, of Greenwood. Chief Jackson remained in Charleston for several days to watch further use of the machine. Chief Beaudrot said that the city of Greenwood contemplated the purchase of a similar machine. The official figures of the tests, prepared by Chief Behrens, are: Test No. 1: Three lines of 2 1/2-inch hose, 200 feet, 1 1/4-inch smooth nozzle; nozzle pressure 65 pounds; pump pressure, 120 pounds; gallons delivered, 1,116; remarks, satisfactory. Test No. 2: Three lines of 2 1/2-inch hose, 100 feet, Siamese into deluge set, 2-inch smooth nozzle; nozzle pressure, 64 pounds; pump pressure, 130 pounds; gallons delivered, 950; remarks, satisfactory. Test No. 3: One line 2 1/2-inch hose, 150 feet, 1 3/4-inch ring nozzle: nozzle pressure, 70 pounds; pump pressure, 200 pounds; gallons delivered 580; remarks, satisfactory, lest No. 4: Three lines, 100 feet, 2 1/2-inch hose, Siamese into fifty feet, 3-inch hose, water tower, 2-inch smooth nozzle; nozzle pressure, 60 pounds: nump pressure, 150 pounds; gallons delivered 920; remarks, satisfactory. Test No. 5: One thousand feet, 2 1/2-inch hose, 114inch smooth nozzle; nozzle pressure, 59 pounds; pump pressure, 300 pouds; gallons delivered, 352; remarks, satisfactory. General remarks on entire tests: Excellent. Chief Behrens said that the Board of Fire Masters was to be congratulated upon having decided to purchase this type of machine, and that he considered they had shown excellent judgment in the matter.
