The Nakasi Youth Club and its members based in Labasa have mapped out projects to benefit children, community members and youths in Bua Province. These assessment visits happened in the past two weeks.

Club president Mohammed Shafil recently made a visit to Korokidi Primary School and Nasarawaqa Village as part of an outreach programme.

Mr Shafil said the club would fully fund the academic awards ceremony for the school as a means to encourage students to strive harder in their studies and claim those awards.

The club will continue its back-to school package assistance for students from Year One to Year Eight. Maintenance painting works were done at the school, assisted by the club.

“We do understand the challenges rural schools are faced with,” he said.

“Next project is to help the Nasarawaqa community develop its borehole water system.”

“There is some testing going on for the borehole water supply, so once the ministry gives the clearance, we will assist the village with borehole digging and provide a water pump.”

The anticipated cost for this is around $12,000. All these assistance were possible through fundraisers, personal contribution by members, and donations, locally and from overseas.

Club members will also assess and help the Nasarawaqa Muslim and Hindu cemetery committees to construct a tin shed respectively.

Island school support Club members visited Druadrua District School last week. They plan to upgrade its hostel accommodating 68 students, especially the washroom facilities.

A new signboard for the school will also be constructed on the group’s next visit. The total cost for the projects is about $15,000.
