Man arrested for setting fire near a gas pump: Shaker Heights police blotter - cleveland.com

A restaurant employee was arrested for menacing when he went to his place of employment on a day off from work and threatened managers.

At 5:25 a.m. Aug. 19, officers were dispatched to the Sunoco gas station at 3569 Lee Road, where a Shaker Heights man, 35, had set fire to a garbage can near a gas pump. Officers extinguished the fire and arrested the man for arson.

At 11:35 a.m. Aug. 19, officers saw a Warrenville Heights man, 20, assault a Warrensville Heights woman, 19, while the two were in a car. Police arrested the man for obstructing official business and resisting arrest. The woman declined medical attention.

Auto theft: Warrensville Center Road

At 4:20 p.m. Aug. 20, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Warrensville Center Road, where a Shaker Heights man, 24, reported that a male suspect stole his BMW auto.

Domestic violence: Warrensville Center Road

At 4:50 a.m. Aug. 20, a 42-year-old Maple Heights woman who was in the 3000 block of Warrensville Center Road reported that the 37-year-old father of her daughter, 1, pushed and punched her during an argument and broke her electronic tablet. The man then fled the area.

The woman declined medical attention. The tablet was valued at $200. Officers are seeking the man on a charge of domestic violence.

At 8:15 p.m. Aug. 20, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Woodbury Road, where an 84-year-old Shaker Heights man reported that his daughter, 37, who lives with him, pushed, kicked and threatened to harm him as the two argued. Officers arrested the woman for domestic violence.

At 7:40 p.m. Aug. 20, police were dispatched to the 17000 block of Scottsdale Boulevard, where a Shaker Heights woman, 26, reported that someone had cut all four tires on her Ford car. The damaged property was valued at $1,400.

At 3:55 a.m. Aug. 22, officers observed a Honda car stopped, its engine running, in the road at Fairmount and University boulevards. Officers approached the vehicle and noticed that the driver, a Shaker Heights man, 26, appeared to be asleep behind the wheel.

Officers woke the man, smelled alcohol, and saw that he showed signs of intoxication. The man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence. The man was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .158., above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08.

Felonious assault: Warrensville Center Road

At 10:40 a.m. Aug. 23, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Warrensville Center Road, where it was learned that a 30-year-old Shaker Heights woman had threatened her 32-year-old live-in boyfriend, then cut him with a knife.

Police arrested the woman for felonious assault. The man declined medical attention.

At 4:50 p.m. Aug. 24, officers were dispatched to the Touch of Italy restaurant, 16822 Chagrin Blvd., where management reported that a 29-year-old Cleveland man, who worked at the restaurant but was patronizing it on a day off, got into a verbal dispute with managers and threatened to harm them. The employee held a pocketknife while doing so.

Receiving stolen vehicle: Van Aken Boulevard

At 12:30 p.m. Aug. 24, police learned from an automated license plate reader that a Jeep vehicle being driven in the 15000 block of Van Aken Boulevard had been reported stolen from the city of Cleveland.

Officers located the vehicle and detained the driver, a 39-year-old Northfield man, and his passenger, a Cleveland woman, 34. Officers confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen and arrested the driver for receiving stolen property.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the woman had provided false information about her identity. She was arrested for giving false information. Officers towed the vehicle and recovered suspected drug paraphernalia.
